There’s a new door in the hallway now. It must have expanded enough for one to fit. Not that that actually explains anything. When I stopped timing myself in the hallway I started counting the number of doors. It wasn’t like I needed to do it to get to my apartment since I’m at the end of the hall, but it was a kind of comfort. There’s safety in numbers, something concrete and understandable, immutable. There have always been 5 doors on either side of the hallway. Today the left side (I guess right side from the camera’s perspective) had 6. The new door is right next to my apartment. It has a plaque on it that says “MAINTENANCE” in bright white font on a blue background. I guess it makes sense for there to be a maintenance closet on every floor, at least when it comes to cleaning the hallways or making things easier when people have to come in to fix things in the apartment. The building is owned by some big real estate company so I wouldn’t be surprised if they had their own maintenance team. That isn’t the problem though. The problem is that the hallway is long enough that there is a new door now. I can’t have missed it. That just doesn’t make sense, it’s right next to my apartment. It’s not like they could just install a maintenance closet right? Unless someone is trying to mess with me specifically this is weird. Other than the sign the door looks the same as any other in the hallway. But it shouldn’t be there. It wasn’t there before. I need to get out again. Being in the apartment is starting to feel stuffy again. Like there’s something pressing in against my door.
